The stamps of this special edition on the 100th anniversary of the German stamp, issued on 17 September 1949, show methods of transporting Swiss Post. Since 1840, the stamp was used in England. In 1849, it was introduced in Germany, first in Bavaria, to free mail. The motif shows a four-in-hand stagecoach. This four-horse vehicle carried mail before the invention of the automobile.
