This stamp shows a relief of the sculptor and porcelain modeler Johann Peter Melchior, in which Goethe is depicted in profile. Melchior was born on October 12, 1742 in Lintorf (in the Rhineland). He was from 1767 to 1779 model master at Höchster porcelain. During this time, the relief of Goethe was also created. After the manufactory had been dissolved, he continued to work at the Frankenthaler manufactory until 1797, shortly before her 1800. Then he continued his work at Nymphenburg porcelain until 1822. On June 13, 1825 Melchior died in the place.
