Verbundgesellschaft, founded in 1947, together with its subsidiaries form the Verbundkonzern. He is the largest electricity supply company in Austria. The power generation of the Verbund Group covers more than half of Austria's electricity needs. It supplies the state electricity companies, industrial companies and the Austrian Federal Railways. On average, more than 90% of the power generation comes from hydropower, the rest from thermal power. The network has 70 hydroelectric power plants. The Verbund Group owns and operates the supra-regional high-voltage grid and ensures the balance between electricity generation and electricity consumption in Austria. Since 1980, the high-voltage network has been upgraded from 220 kV to 380 kV. Further tasks of the association: Determination of future electricity consumption, electricity production with the help of power plants of the special companies, construction and operation of the supraregional high-voltage grid and the international electricity business. In 1947, in the founding year of the association, Austria had a per capita consumption of electrical energy of only around 500 kWh. Today, per capita consumption in Austria is around 7,000 kWh, which can be largely covered by our own generation. The brand image shows a symbolic representation.
