The Habsburg Duke Rudolf IV sealed on 12 March 1365 the founding document for the Vienna General Studies with doctoral rights in all "allowed" sciences. There was a period of legal and economic security of today's oldest and continuously existing university in the German-speaking world. Much younger is the history of today's Vienna University of Technology. Although projected by Emperor Franz II in 1797, the Polytechnic Institute was only opened on 6 November 1815 due to financial problems due to the war. In the mid-sixties of the last century, the institute was elevated to university and in 1975 renamed Technical University.
