The stamps of the special edition on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union were issued on 4 October 1949. They show a posthorn in front of a branch of peace and a globe. The Universal Postal Union for the regulation of international postal traffic, based in Bern, is based on the "General Postal Agreement". This came into force on 1 July 1875. At that time 22 countries were represented in the Universal Postal Union, today there are 189. Since 1948 the association is a special organization of the United Nations. Since 1955 Germany is also a member of the Universal Postal Union.
