The United Nations General Assembly, on 17 November 1978, by resolution 33/16, had approved the convening of a second United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Use of Outer Space (UNISPACE 82). In November 1980, the General Assembly accepted the invitation of the Austrian Federal Government to hold the conference in Vienna. The conference date was set from 9 to 21 August. The first UN Space Conference was also held in Vienna in 1968. From that time to 1982, space technology had significantly improved and opened up unprecedented prospects for the future. Among other things, these new possibilities and their significance for humanity and future generations were the subject of discussion at this major conference. While the conference was held in the Vienna Hofburg, a space exhibition with demonstrations of satellite broadcasts took place in the Vienna Messepalast. It informed the public about the state of space technology and the successes of peaceful use of this technology for humanity. The brand image shows a rocket launch.
