In 1909 Hans Grade built his famous "Grade monoplane". The span of the aircraft measured 10 m, the payload was 60 kg, the top speed 70 km / h. The drive was an air-cooled, stationary V-four-cylinder two-stroke engine with 12 kW continuous power. The hull was designed as an open framework of steel tube with wire bracing. The structure consisted as a tense high-decker from three longitudinal beams made of bamboo, taken in the vicinity of the hull of steel pipes.
