On October 30, 1900, the Wiener Symphoniker performed their first concert under their founding name "Wiener Concert Verein". From the orchestra of the "Wiener Concert-Verein" the Wiener Symphoniker emerged in communion with the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra founded in 1907 and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra merged in 1933 after the World War. As a result, the city of Vienna provided the financial basis, supported by subsidies from the federal government. The first chief conductor of the Concert Association Orchestra was the Bruckner student Ferdinand Löwe. Since 1997 Vladimir Fedosejev has taken this position. The cultural-political task of the Wiener Symphoniker and their predecessors was clearly outlined from the beginning: to make art always new and accessible to ever-expanding interest groups. The commitment to the new also shaped the program design. At the one thousand first and world performances were presented, from the 9th Symphony by Bruckner to a brilliant "Lulu" by Alban Berg in the context of the Wiener Festwochen. The area of responsibility of the Wiener Symphoniker has increased considerably since 1900. The goal was always the same: to bring art to the people.
