In 2008, the Tiroler Landestrachtenverband celebrates its 100th anniversary with many different festive activities in all districts of Tyrol under the motto "Carefully carry on traditions". The preservation and promotion of the local costumes and customs in the annual cycle are only a part of the diverse tasks of the Tyrolean Landestrachtverband. Over 100 clubs with nearly 10,000 members are part of this large family. The spectrum of our folkloric activities ranges from the care of the cultural heritage such as folk song, folk dance. Folk music and dialect, about the home, village and small monument care to nature and environmental protection. Wearing traditional costumes alone would not be enough - gratuitous dedication and love of the region and its people make for success. On the one hand, if we build a strong focus on the youth, then our commitment is not least of all to the older generation, so that cooperation with one another beyond the generational borders is made easier. For possible hardship cases, we have set up the emergency aid fund "Trachtler helfen Trachtlern", with which we have been able to financially support a number of families in need. Our costumes clubs advertise their performances also very well for our tourism country Tyrol. So in recent years they have been ambassadors of Tyrol in many countries of the world. The steady upward trend in the national costume movement is a clear signal for the maintenance of tradition and the diverse Tyrolean folk culture. Because popular culture is not a thing of the past - it is innovative and up-to-date. Folk culture means content - not packaging, it means ongoing confrontation with history, folk dance, costumes and customs - just a confrontation with the lives of the people. These are also the goals of the Tiroler Landestrachtverband for the next decades, according to the motto of the jubilee year: "Carefully carry on traditions" (Oswald Gredler, chairman)
