The Stammersdorfer Lokalbahn - today also referred to as "Weinviertel-Landesbahn" - is a single-track, non-electrified and operated by the ÖBB branch line in the Lower Austrian Weinviertel. Originally this was from Stammersdorf about Auersthal to Dobermannsdorf, today only the section from Obersdorf to Bad Pirawarth in operation. History: On June 7, 1884 the steam tramway Stephanie bridge - Stammersdorf was opened. Two years later, on June 15, 1886, the "Dampftramway Krauss & Comp." Took up freight traffic on the entire route. On December 2, 1897 recommended for the first time the Lower Austrian Provincial Committee, the Landtag the construction of a local railway from Stammersdorf to Auersthal. Less than a year later, on 4 September 1898, the technical report for the project of a normal gauge local track Stammersdorf - Auersthal was available. Based on the concession deed of November 16, 1901, the construction of the railway line began, the technical-police acceptance of the line took place on April 15, 1903, and its opening on April 26 of the same year. With deed of January 6, 1908, the corporation "Lokalbahn Stammersdorf - Auersthal" finally the concession to build and operate a normalspurigen local railway line from the station Auersthal to Schweinbarth station (local train Gänserndorf - Gaunersdorf) and from the station Pyrawarth about Zistersdorf to station Dobermannsdorf ( Local railway Ernstbrunn - Hohenau). On August 9, 1909, the line went to Groß Schweinbarth in operation, on August 14, 1909, the northern branch of Dobermannsdorf to Zistersdorf was opened, and exactly one hundred years ago, on 15 July 1911, celebrated the commissioning of the last stretch of Zistersdorf to Bad Pirawarth. On 1 May 1913, the Niederösterreichische Landesbahnen took over the route before the takeover by the Federal Railways of Austria took place on 1 January 1921. In May 1988, together with several other local railways in the Weinviertel, the sections Hohenruppersdorf - Dobermannsdorf and Obersdorf - Stammersdorf were discontinued, on the second 1995 also the tracks demolished. The brand image shows a historic steam locomotive BBÖ 378 series, in the background you can see the old station building of the popular Viennese heuriger village Stammersdorf.
