After the annexation of Austria to the Third Reich, it was renamed "Heimatgau", after the war ended in 1945, it changed its name again and was from then until his retirement "Burgau". With the abandonment of the postal service in 1964, the transition from means of transport to tourism enterprises gradually took place. The Attergaubahn, which today operates between the towns of Attersee and Vöcklamarkt on the western railway line Vienna - Linz - Salzburg, was opened on 14 January 1913. From the original length (15.3 km) are currently still 13.4 km traveled. As the route connects the ÖBB-Westbahn with the Attersee, it has great importance for tourism in the region. In recent years, there has even been an increase in commuters on the move - this positive increase, of course, can be attributed to several new settlements near the line. By the way: In 2011, Stern & Hafferl set another milestone in its more than 125-year company history and put the first solar ship of Austria on Lake Altaussee into operation.
