Since 1914 the St. Bishop Gebhard as the first patron of the Church of Vorarlberg. The year of birth of the patron saint is 948 or 949. He embarked on a spiritual career very early on. He was canon to Constance and at the age of thirty years in Mainz bishop. In 983 Bishop Gebhard exchanged land and possessions with the abbot of the monastery Reichenau. He subsequently acquired a place in Constance, on the other side of the Rhine, on which he founded the episcopal monastery of Peterhausen. 992 is considered the year of the consecration of the monastery church, the St. Was dedicated to Pope Gregory the Great. Petershausen finally became the mother monastery of Mehrerau near Bregenz. Bishop Gebhard died on 27th August 995. In 1134 Bishop Ulrich II took over the solemn transfer of the bones from the crypt to the presbytery of the abbey church, which at the time was considered a canonization. In the turmoil of the Reformation, the monastery Petershausen was looted. The relics of St. Gebhard destroyed. Thus, his memory in Constance lost importance. For the Gebhardsberg near Bregenz with the church acquired a significant upswing as the center of Gebhardsverehrung. The stamp motif shows a glass window with a representation of the saint of Martin Häusle from the year 1961/62.
