Peter Mitterhofer is at least in this country as the inventor of the typewriter. He was born on 20 September 1822 in Partschins, not far from Meran. In his father's workshop he learned carpentry and carpentry. After completing his apprenticeship, he embarked on several years of wandering through Europe and did not return to his homeland until 1862. Two years after his return, the typewriter model "Vienna 1864" was created. It already contains the basic principles of the mechanics of a typewriter. The model "Meran 1866" was already working with changeover and roller and thus brought the essential components of modern typewriters for the first time to use. Mitterhofer concluded with his typewriter "Wien 1869", the most technically advanced solution. The performance at court was, however, as the previous attempts, accompanied by little success, so Mitterhofer retired to Parcines, where he lived as a farmer until his death in 1893.
