Albert Paris-Gütersloh was born on 5 February 1887 in Vienna as Albert Konrad Kiehtreiber. The pseudonym used by him since 1906, "Gütersloh" was legalized in 1921. After the termination of his high school studies, he took acting lessons, passed the acting exam in 1906 and played at provincial theaters under the name Albert Matthäus. Although this relationship with the theater lasted longer, but important to him were his literary works. At the same time Gütersloh dealt with painting. He was friends with Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. He participated in the exhibitions of the Kunstschau in 1909, the Paris Salon d`autonomne of 1911, the Neukunstgruppe in Vienna and Budapest, the Folkwang Museum, during the war at the Austrian exhibitions in Scandinavia and Switzerland and again and again in Vienna even if he lived for years in Italy and southern France. As a painter, he achieved public recognition with the Reichel Prize in 1926 and the Grand Prix in Paris for his tapestries in 1928, culminating in his appointment to the School of Applied Arts in 1931. Other awards in the years 1935 and 1937 and his numerous literary contributions make him one of the most important artists of the interwar period. After the Second World War he was, among others, Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts, where he set up a fresco and a tapestry school. A multitude of honors already distinguished the great work of this artist during his lifetime. Albert Paris-Gütersloh died on 16 May 1973 in Baden near Vienna. The brand motif shows his work "Selbstbildnis" from 1922.
