Born on 10 February 1898 in Augsburg, the German writer and director Bertolt Brecht emigrated from Germany in 1933 and did not return to Berlin (East) until 1949. There he founded his model theater, the »Berliner Ensemble« with his wife Helen Weigel. Some of his works: The Threepenny Opera, The Life of Galileo, Mother Courage and Her Children, Mr Puntila and His Servant Matti, The Caucasian Chalk Circle. Bertolt Brecht died on 14 August 1956 in Berlin.
