To this day Heinz Erhardt is one of Germany's best-known and most popular humorists. He was born on February 20, 1909 in Riga, Latvia. As the son of a Kapellmeister, he studied in a music store and was trained at the Leipzig Conservatory for piano and composition. He celebrated his greatest successes in the 1960s and early 1970s. With films such as "widower with five daughters" and his parade role, the financial accountant Willi Winzig, he filled the cinemas. But he also thrilled the audience on the theater stage with his subtle wit, which he presented in an inimitable way, humanly and without malice. Heinz Erhardt died on 5 June 1979 at the age of 70 years in Hamburg.
