The total circulation of his books today includes several million copies: The German writer Manfred Hausmann was born on 10 September 1898 as the son of a manufacturer. After the First World War he studied philology, art history and philosophy in Göttingen, Heidelberg and Munich. Hausmann's works - also his most well-known novel »Abel with the harmonica« - again and again coined a central motif that interprets the theme of walking, with him literary as a pessimistic attitude. Other characteristics of his novels, poetry and essays are thoughtfulness, modesty and human understanding.
