Born on November 1, 1902 in the Swabian Babenhausen, Eugen Jochum is considered one of the most important conductors of the last century. From 1922 to 1925 he received his artistic education at the Munich Academy of Music. In 1928-29 Jochum took over the direction of the Lübeck Symphony Concerts. As a conductor of numerous concert broadcasts he worked with the Berliner Rundfunk. In 1934, Eugen Jochum became chief conductor in Hamburg and, from 1949, directed the Symphonie-Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks for eleven years. In 1960, Jochum moved to the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra and from 1971 to 1973 the Bamberger Symphoniker before. Jochum was a guest conductor with well-known orchestras and festivals. He died on March 26, 1987 in Munich.
