Sebastian Rieger was born on 28 May 1867 in the municipality of St. Veit in Defreggen. After high school in Brixen he attended the seminary and celebrated in 1891 Primiz in Brixen Cathedral. Soon after began his folk poetry career with the publication of the first stories in the founded in 1892 "Tiroler Volksboten", for which he worked as an editor in addition to the "Brixen chronicle" from 1897. At this time he also got the nickname Reim-Michl. From 1914 he lived until his death on 2 December 1953 as a chaplain in Heiligenkreuz near Hall in Tyrol. In the twenties he realized his plan to write a "true Tyrolean folk calendar", which appears from 1925 as "Reimmichel Volkskalender". He is next to about 70 book titles to the main component of his literary work.
