On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the Red Cross, Henri Dunant (1828-1910), on May 8, 1953, the Deutsche Bundespost issues a commemorative stamp. Our generation, especially the soldiers, wounded, prisoners and war victims, was privileged to experience the blessings of the International Red Cross and the Geneva Convention in a special way, but also to experience the immense distress, if these international agreements were not kept. The selfless founder of this international institution is Henri Dunant. He has sacrificed his life's work his considerable fortune. In 1901 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
