On July 26, 1961, it was exactly fifteen years ago that the "First Nationalization Law" submitted to the National Council had been unanimously approved by the Austrian Parliament at the meeting of July 26, 1946, on the basis of the report of the then Committee for Property Assurance. The federal law of July 26, 1946, besides the three major credit institutions, made the state-owned enterprises the most important factories of the iron and steel industry, the most important coal mines, a number of companies in the electrical and mechanical engineering, two transport companies, a heavy chemical company, the most important mines and Halls for non-ferrous metals as well as all companies of crude oil extraction and processing. At that time, the legislature wanted to eliminate above all structural weaknesses by which the economy of the first republic had failed due to the nationalization of selected enterprises. The present stamp shows a mining motif, the Wolkersdorfer Schacht, as a representative example of the nationalized companies in this area.
