The Rainbow Parade is a political demonstration that takes place annually on the Vienna Ringstrasse and which, as part of an exuberant and colorful procession, champions the equal rights of homosexuals. (For comparison: In Germany, events of this kind enjoy a great reputation under the name "Christopher Street Day".) The Vienna Rainbow Parade is the largest event of the gay, lesbian, lesbian, bisexual and transgender movement in Austria. The first parade took place 15 years ago, on June 29, 1996, and was organized by a four person committee within the framework of the so called "Austrian Lesbian and Gay Forum" (ÖLSF). Since 2003 the event is organized by the association "HOSI Vienna". (Homosexual Initiative Vienna) with the support of the City of Vienna planned and implemented. It leads from the city park via the quay and ring to the Museumsquartier, Heldenplatz or Schwarzenbergplatz, where the "Celebration" takes place in the presence of prominent politicians and well-known show guests. In recent years, more than 100,000 people - demonstrators, visitors and onlookers - participated in the Rainbow Parade. To some extent as a symbol, it should be understood that the parade (as one of the few demonstrations) goes counterclockwise or against the direction of travel, that is, "the other way round", over the ring. The hustle and bustle with a serious background makes use of the national symbolism of the ring road and, of course, reoccupies it: Just in the political place par excellence, where oppression and visibility and equality is demonstrated, the heterosexual exclusivity with this move experiences its sharp questioning and criticism. On the 3rd of July 2010 the Rainbow Parade takes place for the 15th time. The design of the corresponding special stamp comes from Christian Högl, who works as a graphic artist at the "HOSI Vienna" in addition to his honorary obmious work and has designed many different parade designs in the last eight years.
