In 1978, the DDSG owned five towboats, three large pushboats and a small push-boat, 29 motor-cargo vessels, ten motor tankers, six large passenger ships and a small passenger ship, together 55 self-propelled units and 123 freight and tank barges. This corresponded to a capacity of 185,758 tons and a capacity for 5,575 passengers. Thus, in just a few years before the issue of this special stamp series, with a total workforce of 1100 employees, just under three million tonnes of cargo and around 400,000 passengers could be carried. The brand image of the third value of this series shows the passenger ship "Theodor Körner". It was put into service in 1965 and is 82.97 meters long. A special propulsion system gave the ship excellent maneuverability, especially on the Danube. In the planning of this ship, a compromise was deliberately accepted, in order to enable a use for both the route Vienna - Passau - Vienna as well as for pure long - distance trips to the mouth of the Danube. The developments of recent years have brought economic difficulties for the Danube Steam Shipping Company.
