With a length of 2,888 km, the Danube is the second longest and richest river in Europe. The anniversary "150 years of modern shipbuilding in Austria" refers to the construction of the first iron cargo ship by the Linz shipmaster Ignaz Mayer in 1840. Already in 1844, the first Zugraddampfer was put into operation with Schleppboten. Decisive for the development of shipping on the Danube was the Danube Steam Navigation Company, founded in 1829. The shipbuilding academy Pula and the subdivision for shipbuilding at the Technical University of Vienna, established in 1912/13, guaranteed the high technical and scientific level of the executives and design engineers.
