Johann Nepomuk Eduard Ambrosius Nestroy, born in Vienna on December 7, 1801, first studied law, then went to the theater at the age of 20, first as an opera singer, then as an actor and singer. He wrote as a satirical-humorous playwright in the course of his life 80 pieces with effective vocal insertions, some of which are still often played today. The breakthrough to great success succeeded him in 1832 at the Theater an der Wien with the still reminiscent of Raimund magic character "The evil Spirit Lumpazivagabundus ". 1838-44 enthusiastic "The Talisman", "The girl from the suburbs", "A Jux he wants to make" and "The Torn" his contemporaries.1854 he took over the management of the Leopoldstadt (Carl) Theater. In 1860 he retired to Graz, where he died on 25.5.1862. He perfected the type of the "Wiener Volkstheater", was a master of the dialect and the high-level language, who profoundly used the malicious satire with primitive comedy to denounce the weaknesses of the society of his time. He also did not forget a conciliatory sense of humor. The critic Karl Krauss (1874-1936), recognized moral-artistic authority of his time, noted that the Nestroy pieces, which were written for the current entertainment theater, in their quality about went far beyond these needs, rediscovering the nestroysts in the 20th century. Probably one should bring more of his plays to the show today, or are we simply missing a new Nestroy?
