From the work of the German Red Cross of the GDR The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues three multi-colored special postage stamps in se-tenant print, which show motifs from the work of the German Red Cross in the GDR. The German Red Cross in the GDR On October 23, 1972, the German Red Cross commemorates the 20th anniversary of its founding in the GDR. Led by the working class and its party, it developed multiple national and international activities and in two decades grew into an effective social organization that enjoys the promotion of the government and the sympathy of all citizens of the German Democratic Republic. Today, women, men and young people from all walks of life as Red Cross mates are involved in the continuous improvement of health protection. In addition, the German Red Cross contributes to ensuring the medical protection of the population of the GDR in case of disasters or defenses. It organizes and secures the transport of patients, collaborates with the Emergency Medical Service and trains the citizens for first aid, it supports the health protection at major events, organizes the water and mountain rescue service as well as the station service, promotes the Red Cross blood donation, and takes care of it - and social service effective and educate the young Red Cross generation. Since 1954, the German Red Cross in the GDR has been an equal member of the world-embracing LIGA DER ROTKREUZGESELLSCHAFT. Thanks to the great achievements of the active members of the German Red Cross in the GDR, its numerous solidary aid consignments and the constructive cooperation of its representatives at international Red Cross conferences, it enjoys the respect and appreciation of the worldwide Red Cross movement and thus enhances the international reputation of the GDR. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers are willing and financially supported by the friends of the German Red Cross in the GDR and are eager to successfully fulfill the tasks of the Red Cross in our country, to practice international solidarity and to actively promote international understanding, peace and socialism. Following a good tradition, the German Post of the GDR recognizes the work of the German Red Cross in the GDR, to which, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, three special postage stamps are dedicated. The 15-pfennig value shows a rescued with lifeguards motor boat of the water rescue service during a control drive through a swimming and water sports area. In the background one of the combined security and rescue stations is shown. On the Baltic Sea coast as well as on the inland waters and in the swimming pools of the GDR are z. Z. 32,000 members and trained - lifeguards ready to help the health of those seeking relaxation, which if necessary threatened, but also by false heroes all too often negligently put on the set lives to help. The DRC comrades of the Water Rescue Service provided a total of 156,000 First Aid during the 950,000 wake and duty hours of 1971 alone, harbored 800 capsized boats, brought the crew to safety, and saved more than 700 citizens from drowning.
