Austria's festival summer has two international destinations far beyond its home country - and both can celebrate their anniversaries in 1970: Salzburg has been hosting festival guests for 50 years in its enchanting city, and theater fans have been coming to the Bregenz Lake Constance Festival for 25 years. Bregenz has to offer a clever, economic mix, whereby the lake, the three-tiered corner and the hard-working Vorarlberg hinterland have their specific role to play along. It began 25 years ago, small and modest, and yet fully conscious of the artistic and peoples connecting tasks of the games here on Lake Constance: a stage raft had been built in the gondola harbor, Mozart's little opera "Bastien and Bastienne" was played on top of it , performed by the dance group Grethe Wiesenthal, Mozart's "Kleine Nachtmusik". So in 1946 there was already the game on the lake, the ballet on the lake. Within a quarter of a century, the raft became a gigantic stage with all the technical finesse, with a depth of 400 meters and a platform width of 120 meters, often involving hundreds of participants in front of 6,000 spectators. A playing area of 40,000 square meters had been created here. The unique and successful of the games today is the juxtaposition of operetta sounds, symphonies, operas and theater. The brand image shows a scene from the operetta "The Gypsy Baron".
