In 1985, exactly a quarter of a century had passed since the organizers of the Bad Ischl Opera Weeks decided to use this festival to connect to the great operetta tradition of this city before the Second World War. With the beginning of the development to the spa and health resort in the Biedermeier period, which was devoted to the fine arts in all its variants, it came in Ischl to the construction of a theater (1827). The history of the spa is very much related to the imperial family. Countless famous musicians and composers, such as Josef Lanner, Carl Millöcker, Franz von Suppé or Jacques Offenbach were closely associated with Bad Ischl. After the breakthrough of the operetta and the transition from Offenbach to Strauss it came to the "silver era". Especially Franz Lehar was closely associated with Bad Ischl during this time and also created many of his works here. Emerich Kalman and Robert Stolz, like many other greats of their time, also liked to stay in Ischl. After the First World War, the development of Ischl was severely hampered by the missing imperial court. From 1936 the Bad Ischl theater was no longer regularly recorded, in the Second World War it was closed. In order to reconnect with the great tradition of the place after 1945, preliminary talks were already held under Mayor Fridolin Schröpfer and in 1961 the "International Society - The Operetta" was founded, which also hosts the Operetta Weeks in Bad Ischl. The brand motif shows the Kurhaus as a venue and the emblem of the operetta community Bad Ischl.
