Following the founding of Salzburg (1962) and Linz (1966), the federal law of 21st January 1970 linked the chain of Austria's richly traditional university landscape with the nationwide expansion of education in Klagenfurt. At the end of the 25th year of existence, the University of Klagenfurt has about 5,000 students and about 300 teachers of all categories. Thus, after the first building phase, the construction of a main building for 1,500 students, which was completed in 1977, a second construction stage has become necessary to meet the extraordinarily increased demands of research and teaching.
