Around 12,000 employees, of which 97 percent directly from the 70 project countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, work on the vision of a world without poverty. CARE has general consultative status with the United Nations and is politically and religiously independent. Each year, around 57 million people, more than half of them women, benefit from various CARE projects. CARE's mission is clear: the mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest areas of the world. The strength of CARE through its global presence and diverse resources and experience enables it to drive forward innovative solutions as well as advocacy for global responsibilities. "We work for a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, in which poverty is defeated and people live in dignity and security" - that is the principle of this prestigious organization. One thing is certain: CARE is a global force and a valued partner in the global fight against poverty. "CARE Austria, Association for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid" was founded exactly 25 years ago, in 1986. The team of the politically and ideologically independent organization currently consists of 36 employees. History: After the Second World War, Austria was in ruins and people were starving. All the more important were those CARE packages distributed throughout the country. 40 years later, Austria was one of the richest states in the world and was thus able to give aid to all over the world. Today, about 30 projects in Africa, Asia and Southeastern Europe are being handled from Vienna according to the principle of "helping people to help themselves". In a total of 348 projects in 50 countries, CARE Austria has been able to provide successful assistance over the past two and a half decades - helping almost 50 million people achieve a dignified life. 89 percent of the funds are from public funds from the EU and Austria, and from private donations, directly from the corresponding projects, with the remainder being allocated to information, education and administration.
