25 years Eisenhüttenstadt On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Eisenhüttenstadt, the first socialist city in the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a multicolored postage stamp. Eisenhüttenstadt Eisenhüttenstadt, first socialist city of the German Democratic Republic, a symbol of 25 years of construction and the development of our socialist state. From the distance, the blast furnaces, cooling towers, chimneys and huge production halls of the cold rolling mill tell every visitor that he is approaching the metallurgical center of the GDR. Here, where 25 years ago only sand, heath and pine tree shaped the landscape, today stands the steel strip combine "Hermann Matern" - Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost - and an attractive young socialist city. After the division of Germany by the western powers and reactionary circles of West Germany, only 7 percent of pig iron production remained in the GDR. In West Germany produced after 1949 120 blast furnaces, in contrast, only four in the GDR. Thus, for building its own strong and efficient economy on the III. Congress of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany decided to build a metallurgical combine at Fürstenberg on the Oder with an annual production of 500,000 t of pig iron. On August 18, 1950, west of the Oder-Spree canal, the first pine was felled to give way to the new industrial complex. Thirteen months later, the first blast furnace could already be blown, and on August 11, 1954, the pig iron flowed out of all six blast furnaces. Today, the steelworkers in these six produce more than three times the production originally planned for eight blast furnaces and thus not only cover 70 percent of the raw iron needs of our economy, but have also been exporting to many countries in the world for years. By order of the Vl. A cold rolling mill was built in Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost, which started production in June 1968 after only four years of construction. The large production hall of the cold rolling mill with its ten hall ships is one of the largest in Europe. We are always happy to tell our visitors, with pride and joy, that Eisenhüttenstadt is a living expression of German-Soviet friendship and fraternal affinity with the other countries of the socialist community, especially the neighboring People's Republic of Poland. The entire construction of the metallurgical industry in Eisenhüttenstadt is the result of close socialist cooperation with the Soviet Union and cooperation within the socialist community. At the same time, the new town, which has now grown far beyond the originally planned size, was built with the steelworks. At the turn of the year 1951/52, the construction workers handed over the first 320 apartments. On August 18, 1960, there were already 5,700. Today, after 25 years, the citizens of Eisenhüttenstadt have access to almost 15,500 apartments, including around 9,500 apartments with district heating, hot water supply and other modern comforts. The constant development of the city led in 1961 to the merger with the old city Fürstenberg and the place Schönfließ. Eisenhüttenstadt currently has around 46,500 inhabitants, including 15,850 children and adolescents up to the age of 18. Eisenhüttenstadt is a city of youth. The average age of the inhabitants is currently 30.9 years. Eisenhüttenstadt is an interesting city with a vibrant active social life. Successful artistic design of our open spaces, recreational areas, such as the Rose Hill and the more and more designed sports and recreation park "island", cultural institutions, such as the open-air stage, the Friedrich Wolf Theater, etc., are just a few sites of recreation and spiritual-cultural life for residents and guests. The socialist development made Eisenhüttenstadt a magnet for many tourists not only from our republic, but also from abroad. 25 years Eisenhüttenstadt - expression for 25 years of diligent work of their citizens, symbol of the emergence and growth of our socialist state, the German Democratic Republic.
