On November 1, 1964, the Federal Court of Auditors can look back on a tradition that has lasted 250 years since the Royal Prussian Supervision Chamber was created as a new institution at that time. The historical connection with Potsdam is known. It was therefore planned, following the local color scheme, to choose the old garrison church as the main theme of the brand. The artists commissioned to work on the designs, however, were also reminded of the typical crowning that decorates the bell tower of the church above the famous glockenspiel: "Always faithful and honest." From the crown the shaft grows, around which the weather vane turns with the Prussian eagle and the solitary monogram of the Soldier King. Above it radiates a decorative solar disk. The invited graphic artists have readily and more or less clearly linked to these ideas. Ernst Göhlert sent a draft. Two proposals were submitted by Hermann Bentele and Prof. Walter Breker, and four by Prof. Eduard Ege and four by Herbert Kern. Only one work frees itself from the bond that results from the given suggestions. It focuses on the Prussian eagle hovering with outstretched wings, which, with a sure feeling for surface organization, has moved close to the upper right corner of the brand. Thus it forms the effective counterpoint to the large white value of value, but also to the empty surface of the background, which in this way is released from its passivity, very active and eloquent. The sharp embossed blind embossing gives the coat of arms his special dignity. The well-thought-out "economy" of this brand symbolizes the work of the Court of Auditors in a noble sense. The Federal Minister of Posts and Telecommunications has approved the proposal of the Art Advisory Board and has determined this well-executed draft by Herbert Kern for execution. The stamp was made in two-color offset printing red and black with blind embossing in the Bundesdruckerei Berlin.
