Born on 21 March 1685 in Eisenach, Johann Sebastian Bach came from a Thuringian artisan and musician family. In 1703 Bach became a court musician and for a short time a court organist in Weimar. In 1714 he became ducal concertmaster. By 1717, numerous organ works Bach, including choral arrangements and cantatas. From 1717 to 1722 Bach created important chamber music works during his time as princely Kapellmeister in Köthen, including the six »Brandenburg Concerts« as well as the first part of the »Well-Tempered Clavier«. In 1723 he finally became choirmaster in Leipzig and remained so until his death on July 28, 1750.
