The International Tourism Exchange ITB Berlin, which brings together exhibitors and tourism experts from all continents every year at the beginning of March at the trade fair grounds in Berlin, is the trade fair with the largest international offer and at the same time the largest international demand. Around 3,500 exhibitors from around 160 countries and territories present their tourism offer at ITB Berlin. The approximately 30,000 trade visitors also come from over 160 countries and territories. The International Tourism Exchange has emerged from the overseas import fair »Partner of Progress«. In September 1966, nine exhibitors from Egypt, Brazil, the Federal Republic of Germany, Guinea and Iraq presented their tourism offer to 250 trade visitors at the Berlin Exhibition Center and the Congress Hall in Berlin. For the tourism industry, the organization of a trade fair, as was natural in other sectors for a long time, was new. Today, ITB Berlin has become an integral part of the "business with wanderlust". In the 25th year of its existence, it holds undisputedly its position as the world trade fair for tourism. As a central communication and marketing forum, ITB Berlin is an important trading venue where supply and demand reflect the global market. The branded article »Tourism« has found its trade fair with ITB Berlin. The function of ITB Berlin as a worldwide information and contact forum is repeatedly emphasized by the ITB participants. Behind the colorful façade, a broad technical discussion has been established, which shows its appeal in the national and international arena. It is noteworthy that here deals and contacts are handled on an international level, which have nothing to do with the German market. The significance ITB Berlin has for exhibitors from Germany can be seen in the number of its participants. Around 800 exhibitors present their tourism offer here. This number impressively underlines the position of ITB Berlin as the central exhibition of German tourism. At many stands of the ITB exhibitors, there is always originality that appeals to the public. Today, the stalls are often joint stands, where the tourism organizations of a country present themselves together with private companies of this country. The ITB Berlin is accompanied by an extensive conference and congress program. The constant expansion through a diverse program of events at congresses, conferences, seminars, association meetings also characterizes the exhibition structure. This fair is not only an instrument of global market orientation, but also an annual invitation to dialogue between tourism professionals from all over the world. The concept of ITB Berlin is constantly adapted to the changing needs of the international tourism industry due to surveys and consultations. The ITB Berlin is thus in constant development as a world fair. Trade fairs are organized for the economy, for the respective branches and together with them. ITB Berlin is a successful example of this. (Text: AMK Berlin)
