The Austria Press Agency (APA) was founded on 1 September 1946 as a limited liability cooperative. Cooperative members were the Austrian daily newspapers and the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). The aim and mission of the APA is to provide mass media (newspapers, radio, television, etc.), businesses and institutions that use information and news with independent news, without regard to their political and ideological tendencies. It also states in the cooperative agreement: "The cooperative must be financed neither directly nor indirectly by a private or public body, nor under an economic or intellectual, incompatible with the principles of democracy influence." The APA uses international contacts to tap the flow of information in Austria throughout the world. According to the oldest example of such an organization, the Associated Press (AP), founded in New York in 1848, the news agency is now largely independent in the states with freedom of the press and is not a mouthpiece for interest groups. She has the role of an uninvolved chronicler who reports, but does not influence even the events. By this principle it differs from political correspondence, official press offices, press offices of the economy and confidential information services.
