30 years of the GDR On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the GDR publishes four multi-colored special postage stamps and one block. Special cancellation from 2 October to 1 December 1979 30 years German Democratic Republic In October 1979, the German Democratic Republic celebrates the 30th anniversary of its existence. Born out of the rubble left by German fascism as a heavy legacy and accompanied by sabotage, slander and death by contemporary imperialism, the first workers 'and peasants' state emerged and developed on German soil as the work of its millions of citizens, as Expression of the historical creativity of the working class and other working people. "What our Republic," stresses the appeal of the Central Committee of the SED, the State, Ministerial and National Council of the National Front of the GDR on the 30th anniversary of the founding of our republic, "in 30 years, whatever it will be First and foremost the work of their people, the work of millions, their daily work, all their accomplishments, their troubles and efforts have paid off, their ideas and initiatives are bearing fruit, to an extent never seen before in German history -Bauern-power creative energies, they set free the historical power of the popular masses. Under the leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany today, the GDR is one of the strongest industrialized nations in the world; if it is an integral part of the socialist community, a firm bastion of peace and international understanding, it contributes to the secure protection of social progress in the world. In all fields it is evident that the founding and development of the GDR was indeed a turning point in the history of the German people. The present issue of special postage stamps aims to draw attention to some of the results of this historical development. Shortly after its founding, the young GDR was included in the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (RGW). Bilateral and multilateral agreements developed forms of international socialist division of labor and cooperation, specialization and complex cooperation, new forms of long-term international planning of economic processes finally the complex program of the RGW member countries. The GDR in particular was able to develop into a member of the socialist family of peoples through the support of the other socialist states, which today makes a solid and valuable contribution to the gradual economic harmonization and thus to the rapprochement of the socialist nations. The value of 20 Pfennig therefore symbolizes to a special degree a development that will only be initiated in the present and, above all, will determine the future formatively
