Prince Eugene of Savoy is a towering figure in Austrian history and was born on 18 October 1663 in Paris. Originally, he was to become a minister. When, at the age of 20, in February 1683, he took off his religious dress and asked King Louis XIV to accept him into his army, his request was rejected. Prince Eugene was in the episode on the battlefield of the greatest opponent Louis XIV. For he left Paris to go to the imperial Austrian army. There he played a decisive role in the liberation of Vienna. He became one of the most important patrons of the West against the Turks and preservers of the European balance against the French. In 1697 he defeated the Turkish army at the crossing over the Tisza River near Zenta, and the peace concluded in 1699 increased Austria by one third and established its new world position. After the war against the French, in which the general was able to achieve great success on the battlefield on the side of Austria, he was crucially involved in the negotiations of the Peace of Radstatt, which ended this conflict. In 1703 he was appointed president of the Hofkriegsrates. Even in his last years, Prince Eugen had to confirm himself as a general in order to wage war on the Rhine and on the Moselle against French and Spaniards. He died after a short illness on April 24, 1736.
