On 12 May 2005, the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and Israel. This anniversary will be honored with a joint edition of both states. The statesmen David Ben Gurion and Konrad Adenauer had prepared the ground for a rapprochement of the Federal Republic with Israel in the 1960s. In view of the immeasurable grief that Germans brought to Jews during Nazi rule, it was a miracle for many, as it was only about 20 years after the end of World War II, to succeed a German embassy in Tel Aviv and an Israeli embassy in Bonn to set up. The exchange of ambassadors in 1967 created the institutional conditions for a move towards a true partnership between the two countries. Today, Israel and Germany are working together closely politically and economically. In addition, German-Israeli relations are supported by many activities, such as exchanges of youth and pupils, town twinning and cooperation in culture, science and sport.
