The European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - CEPT - was founded by 19 countries. Geographically, today CEPT, with its 46 member states, encompasses the whole of Europe. As part of the separation of postal and telecommunications companies envisaged in European policy and the establishment of guidelines and agreements, CEPT is a European regulatory body. The activities of CEPT include the standardization of trade, operation, design and engineering directives. The objectives and norms of CEPT were redefined at the General Assembly in Weimar. The CEPT aims to be a forum for regulatory issues in the postal and telecommunications sectors to support its members and promote cooperation at European level, as well as to clarify policy issues (for example, use of radio frequencies). It fosters relations between European regulators, the EU and global contacts. The long-term goal of the CEPT is the approximation of national regulations at European and international level. At the plenary assembly in Bergen, CEPT took important steps to strengthen the organization. As presidium a troika was installed. The previous as well as future presidencies support the current presidency holder and also occupy the vice president's office. In doing so, the organization aims to maintain the continuity of functions, promote the work of the President and make the new CEPT portal visible. In response to telecom networking and information society requirements, CEPT established two separate business committees, one for postal affairs (CERP) and one for telecommunications (ECC) with a permanent office in Copenhagen, the European Telecommunications Office (ETO). , The area of responsibility for each committee has been set by the General Assembly of the CEPT, but the Rules of Procedure are determined by each Committee itself and also by its President. The committees deal with cases of harmonization in their area of responsibility, make recommendations and make decisions. As of October 2005, Germany holds the presidency and organizes the 13th CEPT Conference in Berlin from 11-12. October 2006.
