The Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing, one of the ten largest in Europe, celebrates its 50th anniversary - reason enough for the publication of its own special stamp, which appreciates the historical-scientific value of this important institution according to philatelic. The open-air museum, located in a district of Deutschfeistritz near Graz in Styria, accommodates no less than 97 former courtyards and outbuildings, which were removed in all parts of Austria and faithfully rebuilt in Stübing - in this way the historical objects become just as impressive as an instructive backdrop for an individual journey of discovery and discovery through the traditional rural culture of Austria. Visitors to the open-air museum in Stübing not only learn interesting facts about life and living during their historical hike, but also from the everyday life of the peasant population of yesteryear. On summery meadows at the edge of cool forests, the old farms, grouped by federal states, give an overview of six centuries of rural life. The detail-loving device gives the impression that the farmers could actually enter at any moment. Flowers adorn the balconies, animals graze in the pastures and cereals grow in the fields, which are cultivated and harvested as they used to be. In Stübing, however, not only farms were built, but also old mills (see brand image), a historic school, forest workers' huts and even a Greißlerei, in which there are delicious sweets as in great-grandmother's time. In the old smithy, for example, iron is still being cut today - and if fire should break out, the historic spray car from the arsenal of the fire department of Lerchenreith near Bad Aussee will be on hand. One thing is certain: like the actual situation in Austria, the ascending valley of the open-air museum extends from east to west, so that a visit similar to that of reed-covered buildings from Burgenland to the alpine huts in the Bregenz Forest is possible. In addition to the original buildings, there are also two exhibition buildings on the 60-hectare site that show interesting objects; In addition, craftsmen visit Stübing time and again, demonstrating their traditions handed down from generation to generation in an impressive manner. Anyone wishing to deepen their study of the individual farms beyond the view into the rooms, is certainly in good hands with a guided tour, which also includes the lovingly cultivated utility and jewelery gardens.
