The diocese of Graz-Seckau has set its 750th anniversary under the motto "Path of Hope". In the age of radical modernization in the field of ecclesiastical structures, pastoral care and administration, the Church shows the will to reform. In the seven-and-a-half centuries since its founding by Archbishop Eberhard II in 1218, she has had to prove this more than once - either by force or by will. For example, in the time of the Reformation, when all of Styria today, apart from small areas, was united under one bishop. At its foundation, the diocesan area included only a narrow strip of Seckau over the Murtal and the Stubalpe in the Kainachtal and to the Mur in Wildon. Only after about 500 years of existence of the diocese, the episcopal residence was moved from the archiepiscopal castle in Leibnitz in the Styrian capital Graz. In the Catholic renewal in the 19th century, the boys' seminar was founded in Graz, the newly established Jesuit order reintroduced and the contemplative monasteries of the Carmelites and Carmelites founded. And the last 50 years with their upheavals put the Diocese of Graz-Seckau before new tasks. The stamp shows a relief picture of the westernmost pillar of the Protestant church in the collegiate church of Seckau, consecrated by St. Hartmann of Brixen in 1164, which was elevated to a cathedral 750 years ago when the diocese was founded.
