Udo Jürgens has shaped and animated the German-speaking music scene like no other for more than six decades. Udo Jürgen Bockelmann was born on September 30, 1934 in Klagenfurt and grew up in the Ottoman Castle in Carinthia. At the age of fourteen, he began studying music at the Klagenfurt Conservatory. By the mid-1950s, the young musician was already in demand as a jazz pianist. In 1956 he adopted his stage name Udo Jürgens. He composed for such greats as Shirley Bassey, Sammy Davis Jr., Gus Backus or Rex Gildo, but only his third participation in the "Eurovision Song Contest" helped Austria to the first Song Contest victory and Udo Jürgens for international breakthrough. The unforgettable winning song "Merci Chérie" was the beginning of a great success story. Even hits like "Seventeen year", "Greek wine", "I've never been to New York" or "But please with cream" and many others are among the most famous in German-speaking music and are carried on from generation to generation. His records have so far sold more than 100 million copies, his songs translated into several languages ​​and interpreted by superstars such as Bing Crosby, Caterina Valente, Sarah Vaughan, René Kollo to the sports fans Stiller.
