88th German Catholic Day from 4 to 8 July 1984 in Munich The 88th German Catholic Day will take place from 4 to 8 July 1984. For the fifth time in the 136-year history of the Katholikentage the city of Munich has been chosen as the venue. Katholikentage are always an expression of the World Order of the Church, the hub of faith and the world, a forum for discussion between church and society, but also a forum for inner-church dialogue. Its owner is the Central Committee of German Catholics with the participation of the respective host bishopric. This year's Katholikentag stands under the motto "trust life, because God lives it with us". The word is taken from a text that Father Alfred Delp SJ, who was murdered by the National Socialists in the spring of 1945, wrote in the face of death. In keeping with the motto, questions about the meaning of life in the program of this Catholic Day take up a great deal of space. Individual event halls, so-called theme halls, are dedicated to specific topics, such as "world of work", "foreigners in Germany", "women in church and society", "world church" and "choose life". A diverse range of large forum and lecture events, smaller events, especially in the theme halls, services and pilgrimages is complemented by a wide-ranging cultural program for the Katholikentagsteilnehmer, which are expected from all over Germany. Munich, the site of this year's Catholic Day, was the seat of an Apostolic Nunciature from 1785 to 31 May 1934. The most well-known Nuncio was Eugenio Pacelli (1876-1958), the later Pope Pius XII. (since 1939). Eugenio Pacelli served as apostolic nuncio from 1917 to 1925 in Munich, from 1920 to 1929 in Berlin. As an outstanding connoisseur of German history and culture, Pius XII. especially connected to the German people through their many years of activity in Germany. During his time as a Nazi dictator and war, he did his utmost to help millions of people who were threatened by persecution, racial hatred, war, expulsion and starvation. In the post-war period he sought to alleviate common misery Recognition of Germany as an equal member of the international community and called for the reconciliation of Germans with their neighbors in a united Europe. Pius XII. During his almost twenty-year pontificate he was a proclaimer of peace, a helper of men and a witness of the faith. His motto is of lasting relevance: "Peace is the work of justice." (Text: Commissariat of German Bishops, Bonn)
