Old African Art Treasures in Museums of the GDR With pictures of Old African art shooters from GDR museums, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multi-colored special postage stamps. Special cancellations from June 20 to August 19, 1978 Old-African art shooters in GDR museums The motifs of this special postage stamp issue reflect objects from the rich collections of the Egyptian Museum of the Karl Marx University Leipzig and the Egyptian Museum of the National Museums in Berlin in the exhibition "Africa in Antiquity - Art Treasures from Nubia and Sudan" organized by the Brooklyn Museum, NY, USA, with scientific support from the National Museums in Berlin, GDR, 1978/79. 35 Pfennig value: plate of a signet ring, gold 1.Jh.v.u. Z. - Egyptian Museum Berlin Numerous golden signet rings are also part of the jewelery from the pyramid of Queen Amanishakheto. The sealing surface (2.2 x 2.5 cm) of this ring shows the royal couple sitting opposite each other on a wide couch. Both are dressed in the State Regalia, the Queen with a crowned, human-headed scorpion on her head, the King (left) wearing the diadem with two uraes. The queen hands the young heir apparent to the ruler, who receives it and touches it with his hand. Shown is already known from the New Kingdom of Egypt divine birth legend of the king. The heir to the throne, begotten by the king of the god Amun and born by the queen, is handed over to the reigning ruler. This act secures legitimate succession.
