The badger is »Animal of the Year 2010«. Badgers are up to 90 centimeters in length and 15 to 20 kilograms of weight, the largest animals in the genus Marten. They live together in family groups and inhabit excavated earthworks that can be huge. An excavated in England construction had 50 different chambers with 178 entrances which were connected by 879 meters tunnel. Every generation of roofs ensures that the construction is extended. As omnivores the animals mostly feed on plants and as a nocturnal animal the badger is rarely seen. Until the 1990s, the badger was listed as "endangered" in the Red List of Threatened Species. Fortunately, this is no longer the case today, but the badger is still protected.
