The "Kunst und Kunstgewerbe" collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna was created through the collecting activity of the princes of Austria through several centuries. Just as diverse as the objects (sculptures, pieces of jewelery, scientific instruments, etc.) are their materials (bronze, ivory, shells, etc.). But they all have the high artistic quality and the "courtly" character. Almost all of the art objects come from Europe, from the period of high Middle Ages, Baroque and Renaissance. The brand motif shows the lid shell made of a dark green gemstone from the group of quartz crystals. Other materials of the lid shell are gold, enamel, rubies, emeralds and pearls. The time of origin is estimated at about 1580, as the place of origin, Florence is suspected. It is certain, however, that the shell was initially with Emperor Rudolf II in Prague and only then arrived in the Imperial Treasury in Vienna.
