Stamps are political witnesses and testimonies of the art and culture of a country. From 27th April to 4th May, the world wide variety of this unique cultural heritage will be on display at the IBRA '99 World Stamp Exhibition in Nuremberg, organized by the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten. It is in the tradition of the great philatelic exhibitions of earlier decades, which were also documented in particularly appealing block and stamp editions: the IPOSTA 1930 in Berlin, the INTERPOSTA 1959 in Hamburg and the first IBRA 1973 in Munich. Collectors, dealers and representatives of over 100 postal organizations from all over the world meet there. In keeping with the motto of the World's Fair, "150 years of German stamps", the IBRA block edition shows the first German stamp, the Bavarian "Black One" and, as a second edition of Old German collection areas, the legendary "Sachsen-Dreier". 150 years ago, on 1 November 1849, in the Kingdom of Bavaria and on 1 July 1850, the first German stamps arrived in the Kingdom of Saxony at the counters of the post office.
