After a successful stress test with countless wagons and vehicles, the King Albert Bridge between the Dresden suburbs Loschwitz and Blasewitz was released on 15 July 1893 for traffic. The name "Blue Wonder" was given to the steel suspension bridge over the Elbe in the following period: its original green color was gradually transformed into blue by the influence of light. The span of the 3,000 tonne construction is 280 meters. The construction cost 2.25 million (gold) marks. For vehicles over 15 tons, the bridge has been closed since 1981. Today, 35,000 vehicles pass through the Elbe bridge each day.
