Utility and Working Dogs The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues six multicolored special postage stamps with pictures of utility and working dogs. Working and working dogs 5 Pfennig value: German boxer The ancestors of the boxer were used in the Middle Ages for bear, wolf and boar hunt. In the second half of the last century, by deliberate crossing with other races, today's German boxer was born, who hardly resembles his ancestors. Only in 1925 this breed was officially recognized. From the originally stocky, strong type an elegant dog has emerged, which has not lost its good qualities: cutting, hardness and endurance. This makes him an exemplary service dog, which is preferred as a companion and guard dog, especially from the big city. His short coat makes him suitable for the apartment, and because of his good nature, he is respected as a friend for children.
