Buildings of the German Post With the illustrations of buildings of the German post office the Ministry for post and telecommunication of the German Democratic Republic issues four multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from February 9 to April 8, 1982 25-pfennig value: Technical Telecommunications Terminal in Berlin Technical Telecommunication Offices of Deutsche Post contain equipment for switching and transmission technology for telephony, telex and data transmission. They form nodes in the telecommunications networks of the various network levels and serve for the selective interconnection and the multiple utilization of lines as well as the signal amplification. The nodes of the local area network are the local exchanges to which each individual telephone, telex or data subscriber is connected. The Postwertzeichen represents a local exchange in the local network Berlin, in which up to 30,000 telephone subscribers can be connected. It is an exchange that has to fulfill not only technical, but also architectural functions due to its location within the urban area. The sculptural facade design blends harmoniously into the surrounding residential development. The surrounding terrace serves as sun and weather protection. The attic storey houses the company restaurant. The building was built in a modern industrialized reinforced concrete construction method by the engineering tower Berlin. The technical operating rooms are windowless and column-free designed for the switching system S 65. Work and recreation rooms for the operating personnel are located on the windows with external fronts.
